You did a really great job of explaining the impact of social media on our minds, focus, nervous system etc. Thank you for a really valuable article. I especially appreciate hearing from someone in recovery from alcohol because your perspective has considerable weight to it as a result. I have reflected on the addictive nature and also the manipulation of those companies, and most important impact on mental health and ability to be fully present to life and relationships.

Susan, thank you so much for taking the time to connect and share your thoughts. I am so grateful you are here. If I can use what I know about addiction to help with phone addictions, I'm really happy it helps. In terms of robbing us of joy, and as you so rightly say: the ability to be fully present in life and relationships - all addictions abuse us that way. That the Big Companies do this to us on purpose for profit is truly a sickness. And not our fault!

Thank you. If I decide to quote from your article (especially from that angle of recovery and being in control of our minds, nervous system etc in a chapter on this topic, are you okay with that? I would give you credit of course. One chapter in the book I am writing deals with addictions.

I couldn’t agree more! I ditched insta and fb a year ago and have seen a noticeable improvement in my mental health. Thanks for confirming that they were designed to be addictive so beware!

Oh man, that is so interesting. The more we learn about addiction and recovery, the better we are at spotting all the additional ways culture attempts to separate us from ourselves!
